When Younes Bengeloune moved to Montreal from Los Angeles in 2002, he noticed that his new hometown was missing something.

Bengeloune, who originally hails from Morocco, was studying business at California State University in Northridge in L.A., and he came to Montreal to work in the dental supply business. Touching down here, he quickly realized something was missing in the restaurant landscape ici.

“I never really found that American style fast food burger here,” Bengeloune said in a phone interview Tuesday. “So it was always in the back of my mind that I’d like to open (a restaurant like that).”

It took a while, but Bengeloune made the dream a reality in March 2013, opening the first Uniburger outlet on Ontario St. E. It was in the same location as the legendary burger emporium La Paryse, right at the corner of Sanguinet St. This past October, the original Uniburger moved one block east, to the corner of St. Denis St.

Along the way, he set up two other Uniburger restos, one at Côte-des-Neiges and Côte-Ste-Catherine Rds. in November 2014 and the third on Notre Dame St. W. in St-Henri in October 2017.
